Lorna DamianiFrequently asked questions

You probably have a lot of questions you want to ask about hypnotherapy. Perhaps you feeling a little or unsure or sceptical?

Below, you'll find the most commonly asked questions about hypnotherapy.

Please contact me if you have any other questions and I'll do my best to answer them for you.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Everyone experiences hypnosis differently - and everyone experiences waking trance every day of our lives. 'Trance' is a one of the many states of mind that humans naturally and regularly pass in and out of.

Remember what it feels like to daydream at school? Or when your mind wanders while you're driving home from work? Or even when you are engrossed in a movie?

In hypnotherapy we aim to achieve deep relaxation to allow you to move into the state of mind we call a 'hypnotic trance'. While the mind remains awake and alert, the body can feel very heavy or very light and floaty, warm and tingly.

Will I lose control and give away secrets under hypnosis?

No. Hypnotherapy is different from stage hypnosis. You stay in control of what you say and do.

Is there a risk I may get stuck in hypnosis?

No. You are able to stir yourself at any time. Some people need a bit of encouragement because they enjoy the feeling of relaxation so much. That's alright, you can be taught self-hypnosis so you can enjoy relaxing yourself whenever you want.

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Yes absolutely. You are in control, you are using the power of your imagination, any suggestions that do not fit will simply be rejected by your mind.

Will I lose consciousness during hypnotherapy?

No. Not only do you remain fully aware, but in fact your senses are heightened as you focus on the inner you with your subconscious mind. You will feel deeply relaxed, aware of all that is around you, and unbothered by worldly matters - enjoy the break!

Are there any dangers?

No. You are in a completely safe clinical environment.

Will I be able to remember what happens in hypnosis?

Memory is selective and like any hour-long conversation, some things will stand out in your mind while some things won't.
