Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are characterized by unhealthy, obsessive, or disordered eating habits and involve both emotional and physical symptoms. Disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia (binge-eating followed by purging); binge-eating, and other disordered eating patterns.

Sufferers are largely young women, but anyone — including young men and older adults of any gender — can develop an eating disorder. Eating disorders often take over almost everything with sufferers focused on eating (or not eating) to the exclusion of much else in life.

A combination of approaches including CBT and Mindfulness will help building understanding and skills to manage the problem. Complex cases may require combined treatment by health professionals—including psychotherapists, medical doctors, and specialized dietitians or nutritionists—to bring about full recovery.
