Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessions and compulsions are commonly grouped together and are known as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Obsessions can be intrusive and are characterized by involuntary recurrent and intrusive thoughts, ideas or impulses. While it is natural to experience some obsessional thoughts, if these occur frequently and interfere with normal daily routines and relationships, they can cause extreme distress.
Compulsions are actions you may feel compelled to perform to reduce the anxiety of your obsession. They are repeated continuously. Examples of compulsions include excessive washing and cleaning, counting and touching things, hoarding, incessant rechecking, repeating certain words or phrases and performing ritualistic behaviour.
CBT is an effective therapeutic treatment method for OCD. You will receive a highly personalised treatment to enable you to be more self-aware and to acquire lifelong coping mechanisms and to resolve the underlying issues that may be exacerbating your OCD.
CBT has been found to result in long-lasting benefits and also aims to provide you with effective coping strategies, enabling you to continue enhancing your levels of well-being long after treatment.
