PTSD
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a condition which develops after having experienced or witnessed, a serious trauma such as a life-threatening assault, rape, torture, seeing someone killed or a severe accident. However, symptoms similar to PTSD develop in some people after less severe traumatic events.
The trauma involves intense fear, helplessness or horror. In some people PTSD develops soon after the trauma. However, in some cases the symptoms first develop several months, or even years, after the traumatic event.
There are a number of treatments for PTSD. Trauma-focused CBT can help you to process trauma, learn how to manage the emotional dysregulation caused by memories of the trauma, and find more effective ways of coping.
